The Road to the Ancient Lab is an ambush that takes place between Princess Zelda's small retinue and forces of malice summoned by Ganon's time traveling malice, called Harbringer Ganon. The primary antagonist in the fight is a corrupted guardian, a phenomenon being observed for the first time in this timeline. The location of the battle is  known as the Breach of Demise, a unique ravine west of Hyrule Castle.

Role in Games[]

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity begin the Road to the Ancient Lab with Zelda attempting to puzzle out the purpose and personality of the guardian that found her in the previous conflict. The princess' party is hopeful that Purah and her team might help them understand their new discoveries about the Skeikah slate and towers along with the tiny guardian.

As the group makes their way through the Breach of Demise, a small wisp of malice infected a deactivated and partly buried guardian. The battle begins after the newly corrupted guardian attempts to kill Zelda with its optic blast, Link just barely blocking it in time. As the conflict begins, the heroes must capture a couple of bokoblin bases, trying to outrun the ancient weapon.

As the heroes secure the path forward, the guardian will catch up, dramatically smashing through wooden constructs to reach its target. Technically the guardian can be damaged, but its basic attack can defeat a player in just two or three hits, so it's advised, at least the first time through, to follow the other objectives to defeat this guardian. Terrako will activate another inert guardian towards the western side of the map, which in turn will immediately blast the possessed guardian in pursuit, sensing the malice of Ganon within the machine.

Zelda deduces that a few more lasers like that would defeat their foe and charges Impa and Link to find more intact guardians for Terrako to trigger. While the heroes seek out suitable guardians, a hylian captain will spawn. The captain will fight a losing battle against the guardian to buy the heroes enough time to reach the deactivated guardians. The two more required magical laser blasts needed to defeat the guardian come from other guardians nestled on the south and north ridges. Terrako must be brought to both for him to activate them and heavily damage the guardian.

With most of its health gone, the last object is the first, to defeat the rampaging guardian. Once destroyed, Zelda and her retainers are able to reach the research facility located not far from the Breach of Demise, due to its many ancient relics.

Korok Seeds[]

Map of where every Korok Seed can be found

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity has hidden Koroks to be found across the battlefield. They hide in different, simple interactive points, paying homage to Breath of the Wild's own small challenges to collect the seeds. Breach of Demise has six seeds to be found.

  • Between the first and second garrisons, beside the north wall. The Korok is hiding in a flower.
  • North of the second garrison, from where the possessed guardian came from. Look for a stump with a leaf symbol on it.
  • In the Lizalfos camp in the center south open field. This Korok hangs out in a flower on the southernmost part of the map.
  • Follow the southern path all the way back east, towards the beginning of the stage. There is a target balloon floating just pass the locked gate that opens with the southern Lizalfos camp being captured.
  • Right before the southern inert guardian, in a small camp just to its south, is a pinwheel. Activating this pinwheel will summon the Korok and his seed.
  • Look to the south of the northern guardian Terrako needs to activate. A small glowing spot can be found, where the Korok is hiding.

Origins[]

Age of Calamity draws its inspiration for this battle directly from Breath of the Wild. The Breach of Demise is a canyon west of Hyrule Castle. The map incorporates several neighboring landmarks as well into the battlefield. the northern part of the Western Hyule Plains as the Breach of Demise's southern ridge. It even contains its small pond with a lizalfos camp in its center. The northern ridge of the canyon uses the southern half of North Hyrule Plain.

The area gets its name as being the sight that Ganon was defeated at thousands of years ago, which is why in Age of Calamity Purah, Zelda, and Robbie are leading efforts at excavation in the canyon to extract, study, and utilize the ancient magical technology that helped defeat Ganon back in their long forgotten past. All kinds of small camps and scaffoldings are about the battlefield to represent their labors.
