Dynasty Warriors 6 Special (真・三國無双 5 Special, Shin Sangoku Musou 5 Special) is a revised and overhauled version of Dynasty Warriors 6. It features many changes that were not in the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 versions. Unlike the Japanese port, the English version is not on two discs and does not feature the Special moniker.
Changes[]
- Musou Modes for Ma Chao, Yue Ying, Cao Pi, Zhang He, Taishi Ci, and Ling Tong are added and they receive new weapons and movesets, as well as slight variations and accents in their alternate outfits. Weapons changes are as follows:
- Ma Chao from a spear to a great sword (similar to Fu Xi's weapon).
- Cao Pi from a sword to a longsword.
- Zhang He from a spear back to his pair of claws.
- Taishi Ci from a spear back to his pair of rods.
- Ling Tong from a halberd to a three section staff (sanjiegun).
- Yue Ying from a longbow to a bladed crossbow, an original weapon inspired by the repeating crossbow. It fires flaming projectiles and contains an extending stationary blade.
- Renbu decreases at a slower rate.
- The port has lower resolution graphics, models, and heavy slowdown compared to PS3 and Xbox 360 versions, likely due to limited memory capabilities. This also limits the number of troops on screen at once.
- Dueling and swimming are removed. Water will always be shallow enough for the player to run through (except at Chi Bi, where the water part is inaccessible). Characters with the skill Water Sense have it replaced with other skills.
- Enemy AI at Conquest of Wu, Chi Bi, and Fan Castle are altered due to the absence of swimming. The Central Trap at He Fei Castle is also changed to a multi-fire arrow contraption attached near the gate and a powerful gust will be triggered after few seconds. The water pool below Central Trap is also removed.
- Unique clothing and banners used to distinguish countries are omitted, and animations for an army's extra units, such as ballista and engineers, are altered or cut.
- Playable allied and enemy officers only perform attacks up to their 2nd Renbu level, while non-playable officers are limited to their 1st level.
- Loading screens before battles are reverted to a standard black screen with flaming text.
- Background music resets after mid-battle cutscenes.
- When the player is KO'd in battle, nearby troops will be unrendered.
Stages[]
Five new stages are added:
