Han Song (onyomi: Kan Sū) is one of Liu Biao's advisers who urged him to side with Cao Cao. Imprisoned for his views, he was eventually released and made an imperial minister of Wei.

Role in Games[]

Han Song has appeared in the Dynasty Warriors series as a generic officer since the seventh installment.

In Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Han Song's low combat stats is offset by his above average affinity for domestic and foreign-related tasks. His birth year is listed as 153 in earlier titles.

Historical Information[]

A native of Nanyang, Han Song was said to have been a diligent youth despite coming from a poor family. When the Yellow Turban Rebellion occurred, he found refuge in the south and later became a senior official for Liu Biao.

He advised his lord not to go against the more powerful Cao Cao, though he willingly acted as an envoy for the two leaders. Although Han Song was originally tasked with monitoring Cao Cao's activities, the official warned that he would accept whatever position the imperial government would entrust him with. His prediction proved true when his hosts treated him with deference and gave him governorship over Lingling.

Upon returning to his master, he deeply praised Cao Cao's court, refused to divulge any of their secrets, and even encouraged Liu Biao to send his son to the capital as a hostage out of goodwill. This angered Liu Biao enough to kill his escorts and have him sentenced to death for treason. Fortunately, Lady Cai persuaded him not to go through with it, deeming it unjust to kill Han Song for correctly predicting the court's actions. He was released in 208 by Cao Cao and appointed as Director of Ambassadorial Receptions.

Romance of the Three Kingdoms[]

In the 23rd chapter of the novel, Han Song's role in the story is identical except that Kuai Liang intercedes on his behalf when Liu Biao is about to execute him.
