The Great Fairies are an unlockable playable group of four characters in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, consisting of the four sisters named Cotera, Kaysa, Mija, and Tera, along with the occasional aid of the Horse God Malanya. In Breath of the Wild, they live in fairy fountains in four different regions of Hyrule, and when Link revives them with an offering of Rupees, they offer to upgrade his armor, but the rarity depends on the materials necessary to do so, and the more Great Fairy Fountains revived, the better the rarity.
Role in Game[]
As unlockable characters, the Great Fairies have to be attained by completing side quests involving defeating enemies and gathering enough Rupees to summon them. Once summoned, they have to be battled and defeated before, once all four have been fought and bested in combat, they are unlocked as playable characters.
They are available for unlocking in Chapter 4 of the game's Story Mode, after Link and the other Champions have been given their Champion attire and completed the first mission of that chapter, "Akkala Tower". First thing to do is complete a request in the Gerudo province for someone that needs 5,000 Rupees, titled "Offering Help on the Road". Completing this unlocks the side quests for getting the Great Fairies.
Cotera's side quest, named "Fairy Fountain: Grassy Plains", requires defeating several elemental Moblins before then defeating a Hinox within a set time limit. After that, collect enough Rupees similar to what is needed to unlock the first Great Fairy Fountain in Breath of the Wild, and head for where Cotera's flower bud representing her Fairy Fountain is. Get close enough, and the Rupess will be removed from the inventory automatically to revive Cotera. Once revived, she becomes a boss enemy that needs to be defeated to complete the quest and be one step closer to unlocking all four of them.
Kaysa's, titled "Fairy Fountain: Deep Snows", requires helping a Rito Captain and his troops against several Blue Moblins attacking their outpost while taking out five Ice Moblins around the area. Once the Ice Moblins are defeated, if the Blue Moblins are still attacking the Rito Captain, they will withdraw once the Ice Moblins are defeated. Collect the Rupees from the chests that appear, head for Kaysa's flower bud that appears, revive her, and then defeat her to complete the quest.
Tera's, titled "Fairy Fountain: Desert Sands", requires fighting the Yiga Clan, alongside a few monsters such as a Blue Moblin and a Stone Talus, and collecting the required Rupees from them. It is another timed mission, but there is plenty given to collect the required amount. Once enough have been collected, head to Tera's flower bud in the middle of an oasis, revive her, and defeat her in battle to complete the quest.
Mija's, which appears once the other three are completed, titled "Fairy Fountain: Battlefield", requires defeating several Moblins of various types within a tight time limit for each one, save the Electric Moblin and the Black Moblin backing it up, which gives a larger amount to defeat to attain the last of the required Rupees. After the Rupees are collected, head for Mija's flower bud, revive her, and defeat her in battle to complete the last of the side missions necessary to unlock the Great Fairies as a playable character(s).
Due to the Great Fairies' large sizes, they have very large hitboxes for taking damage and delivering it in stride using their magical bracelets to attack. After certain attacks, the sisters will switch places to have another one take point until switched out again. Their attacks are based on their animations from upgrading Link's armor in Breath of the Wild, from simply blowing kisses at him, to smothering him, to straight up dragging him into their flower buds for a little private love time with him. Their special attack has all four sisters attack the target at once, surrounding it and unleashing a joint attack on it.

- Y, Y, Y, Y, Y, X: The Great Fairies will retreat into the fountain. From here they will enter a state where the player can press a button to have a fairy pop out and do damage, similar to their regular dash attack. This can be repeated until the attacks ends with a final pop out of their pod.

- Tera calls up many Saffinas, creating a very large damaging area around herself.
