Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order is a collaboration title between Koei-Tecmo's Team NINJA and Marvel Entertainment.
Marc Sumerak is credited as the game's story writer.
Plot[]
Set in a canon continuity different from the last two installments developed by Activision, the story revolves around the Mad Titan Thanos and his Black Order seeking to acquire the six Infinity Stones. Other villains from past Marvel titles want the Infinity Stones for themselves, leaving the heroes no choice but to get them first.
Following the demise of both Thanos and his illegitimate son, Thane, where the heroes split the stones for safekeeping, Doctor Doom invades Wakanda to steal a Soul Stone which Black Panther safeguarded for his unknown plot. As Doctor Doom transported the reassembled allied heroes to Negative Zone, they are lastly joined by Fantastic Four to uncover Doom’s true purpose on using the Soul Stone.
Gameplay[]
- Players can choose a team of four different characters, each with their own signature attacks and movesets. All of them have up to four different abilities that unlock by leveling up and become stronger by spending ability points. Abilities may also be strengthened by synergizing two team members who have great compatibility.
- The Extreme (formerly named Xtreme in original Marvel Ultimate Alliance and X-Men Legends duology) gauge serve as the game's analog to Omega Force's Musou system. By filling it up, characters will be able to perform an Extreme Attack that inflicts major damage against surrounding enemies.
- Putting certain characters in the same team together may activate a team bonus which raises certain stats depending on the combination. Multiple team bonuses overlap with one another for added effect.
- Alliance enhancements provide the roster with special power-ups and buffs. These cost enhancement points and credits.
- ISO-8 allows players to equip their team members with isotypes that raise specific stats or traits. These can be used as fodder material to create better isotype pieces.
- Boss characters have a stagger gauge that leaves them stunned if depleted by continued attacks.
- Beginners may opt to set the game's difficulty level to Friendly while more experienced players can choose Mighty to spice up their gameplay experience.
- The game offers two camera options: classic and heroic.
- Online co-op is included.
- Infinity Trials serve as the game's challenge mode. Completing the challenges they offer unlocks rare rewards like costumes.
- Downloadable content includes characters from Fantastic Four, and other members of Marvel Knights and X-Men.
