Nobunaga no Yabou 201X (信長の野望 201X, the year being pronounced as ni-maru-ichi-x) is the third free-to-play Nobunaga's Ambition social game. Unlike its predecessors, the majority of the character visuals are from Nobunaga no Yabou Tendou, and it requires the Unity Web Player to play like Daikoukai Jidai V. It was first announced during Koei Tecmo's Network Business Strategy Conference in 2014. As of May 12, 2016, the game has reached 800,000 users.

Kou Shibusawa, Takahiro Kibe, and Tomokazu Takeda are producers of Nobunaga's Ambition for smartphones. The game's conception began with a photoshopped Nobunaga, which Shibusawa later approved. The game features supernatural monstrosities and a pre-open playing option.

Plot[]

A dimensional portal opens above Kyoto, unleashing UMA, causing phenomena in modern Japan. People from the Warring States period can slip in and out of time, and those with powers are expected to enlist as agents of the Special Liberation Organization. The protagonist is an onmyouji descendant living in modern Japan.

Gameplay[]

The game involves creating formations of agents, spending Spiritual Energy to start stages, leveling up the player avatar, and using loot to fortify agents. Levels change a player's maximum Spiritual Energy capacity and formation's cost rating. Players can buy or sell equipment, scout for other agents, and earn Assist Points by choosing a leader. Real world currency can be spent to obtain Precious Stones, which can recover Spiritual Energy, continue from defeated bosses, access rare gacha options, and increase formation cost capacity.

Magatama, rare consumable goods, are earned through specific conditions in the game. Players can access in-game sponsors, real-world Japanese corporations offering replicas or rewards. Partnering with sponsors incurs a daily Credits fee, but players can improve their service by investing additional Credits. Partners can be added or removed at their discretion.

Formations[]

Active combat formations are based on a 3x3 square grid, with one agent per square. Players can only have four agents initially, but clearing the first story chapter unlocks the last active slot. Reserve agents can be assigned if spare Cost is available. Agent stats include health, attack, and speed, with rarer agents having better stats. Each agent has a unique battle skill and three special abilities learned through leveling up.

Class Icon Active Range General Attributes UMA Proficiency
Warrior Helmet Front Melee fighters; sturdiest and strongest attackers.
Can equip average firearms and best medieval weapons.
Special abilities are offensive buffs.

Training speeds up agent leveling, similar to card fusions in social games. Players can sacrifice spare agents and Credits to make a target agent stronger, and merge exact duplicates to increase their level capacity. They can also replace or insert special abilities through the Inheritance option. To unlock Class Change, players must complete the second story chapter and max an agent's level.

Combat[]

UMAs are divided into three types: Beast, Demon, and Undead. Players use a 3x3 formation grid to fight, with agents placed outside their range accumulating damage. Squares on the grid can activate skills, and skill combos trigger passive traits. Modern armaments can be used once an agent's bullet counter reaches 100. Gunfire starts before officer skills and can be stacked with skill combos. Battles must be completed within the specified turn limit, and victories are graded with S rank being the highest. Hidden feats reward Precious Stones and can be reported on social media.
