Yasukatsu Sakakibara is the third son and successor of Yasumasa. He served admirably at both campaigns against Osaka, only to die just weeks after the siege was completed.
Role in Games[]
Yasukatsu Sakakibara appears at the winter and summer campaigns of Osaka in Samurai Warriors Chronicles. He is amongst the first line of officers to attack the castle, fighting not far from Yoshinobu Satake, his historic ally in the battle.
Yasukatsu comes late in Kessen. Like Naotaka Ii and Tadatomo Honda, he succeeds Yasumasa to fight at Osaka Castle. He will replace his father earlier if Yasumasa is defeated enough and slain in battle. He wears his father's armor but fights unmasked. He plays no important role during the Osaka campaign though.
Historical Information[]
Sakakibara Yasukatsu was born the third son of Sakakibara Yasumasa. As his oldest brother was adopted into the Osuga clan and other older brother died at a young age, Yasukatsu was appointed by Yasumasa as his heir. He also became Katō Kiyomasa's heir through marriage to his eldest daughter. in 1606, Yasumasa died and left his estate, valued at 100,000 koku, to Yasukatsu, who became one of the newly remade daimyo system.
Yasukatsu served in Tokugawa Ieyasu's army during both the winter and summer campaigns against the Toyotomi in Osaka. During the winter campaign, he provided support to Satake Yoshinobu when the ronin defenders began to overrun his forces. During the summer campaign, Yasukatsu provided support during the battle of Yao and was defeated by Sanada Yukimura at the final battle of Tennōji. He died less than a month after the battle from what is thought to have been really bad hemorrhoids at the age of twenty-six.
