Historical Information[]

Amago Yoshihisa was the eldest son of Amago Haruhisa and he was given the childhood name of Saburōshirō (三郎四郎). In 1561, his father suddenly died, along with many other members of the Amago family. Yoshihisa became the head of the clan, beginning his rule on the defensive.

Mōri Motonari immediately pressed the advantage on this weakening of the Amago clan. Yoshihisa, unlike his father, no longer wanted to challenge the Mōri, opting instead to fight defensively. As a result, he abandoned his proxy clan the Fukuya to Mōri's revenge. Yoshihisa's decision cost him several key retainers, including Honjo Tsunemitsu (who joined the Mōri), Onsen Hidenaga and Ushio Hisakiyo fled, and Tako Tatsumikata died.

In an effort to strengthen their position, Yoshihisa made an alliance with Ōtomo Sōrin. The goal was to split Motonari's attention, but it did not produce enough pressure to stop the Mōri from invading Izumo.

By 1565, the Amago had lost numerous ally clans, either to invasion or defection to the Mōri. Yoshihisa was turtled up at his primary fortress, Gassantoda. During the Second Battle of Gassantoda, Motonari's forces couldn't break the fortress's stout defense, leading to a protracted siege. Yoshihisa began to lose control of his men when he suspected Moriyama Hisakane of treason and suddenly executed him. This caused most of his remaining troops to desert and on 1566, ending the siege in surrender.

Motonari permitted Yoshihisa to live, taking up the life of a monk and changing his name to Yurin (友林). When Mōri Terumoto became the head of Mōri clan, he became a retainer under Terumoto.
